PHOENIX, Ariz. (January 3, 2022) – Gallagher & Kennedy is pleased to announce that Erik C. Smith and Matthew R. Boatman have been elected to shareholder effective January 1, 2022.
Erik C. Smith, an attorney and certified public accountant (CPA), helps business clients, both for-profit and non-profit, in a variety of industries, from their initial creation to the winding up of their business affairs. His experience includes business formations, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, and general corporate governance matters. He also focuses on all areas of federal tax law, with an emphasis on partnerships, limited liability companies, C and S corporations, real estate-related tax matters, and civil tax controversy.
Mr. Smith earned his Juris Doctor cum laude from the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law, and his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in accounting summa cum laude from the University of Arizona, Eller College of Management.
Matthew R. Boatman focuses on personal injury, wrongful death, and product liability. He has been a member of multiple trial teams in several high-profile cases. He has been recognized by the National Trial Lawyers as a top 40 civil attorney under the age of 40 in Arizona, recognized as a Best Lawyers in America®, Personal Injury Litigation, and a Rising Star by the Southwest Super Lawyers® in Personal Injury – Products: Plaintiff.
Mr. Boatman was part of the team in the Yarnell, Arizona Hotshot Firefighters’ survivors’ cases, complex medical malpractice cases, and numerous large products liability cases, all with multi-million dollar settlements. Mr. Boatman also worked closely with lead counsel in the multi-district product liability litigation against C.R. Bard and the Cook multi-district litigation for defective vena cava filters. He obtained a $500,000 verdict in Gila County and has been a part of several million-dollar-plus cases.
Mr. Boatman received his Juris Doctor from the Arizona Summit Law School in 2013 and his Bachelor of Arts in History from Arizona State University in 2010.
