The Law Boat: A Cruise Through Civility and Professionalism Rules and Guidelines

G&K personal injury attorney Jonathan Litster will present “Ethical Rule 1.15(e) and (f) and the Lawyer's Creed of Professionalism of the State Bar of Arizona, Preamble (B)(2),” to the Arizona Thurgood Marshall American Inn of Court on February 26, 2025. The Court hosts an educational session, "The Law Boat: A Cruise Through Civility and Professionalism Rules and Guidelines," where members provide updates on recent court decisions, rules, and regulations affecting the profession.

Jonathan's presentation will cover the broader principles of professionalism in legal, with a focus on attorneys' ethical obligations regarding the safekeeping of client property when there are disputed claims to client funds. Specifically, he will examine Ethical Rule 1.15, which outlines a lawyer’s duty to safeguard client and third-party funds, promptly deliver funds or property owed to clients, and the process to allow disbursement to clients when funds are in dispute. Jonathan will discuss common pitfalls that lead to ethical violations and best practices for ensuring compliance.

Additionally, his presentation will highlight the Lawyer’s Creed of Professionalism, Preamble (B)(2), which emphasizes truthfulness in legal practice, underscoring an attorney’s responsibility to not make false or misleading statements of fact or law.
