Two New Shareholders Added to the Criminal Defense Group

The law firm of Gallagher & Kennedy announced today that Woodrow C. “Woody” Thompson and Jay S. Volquardsen have joined the criminal defense as shareholders.

Mr. Thompson is a criminal defense attorney who represents his clients on all types on felony and misdemeanor offenses and government investigations.  Over his career, Mr. Thompson has also practiced commercial litigation, products liability and intellectual property law.  However, he has concentrated his practice in criminal law for the past 13 years, representing clients on a wide range of criminal offenses from misdemeanor DUI to homicide and federal investigations. Mr. Thompson has developed extensive expertise in the area of felony and misdemeanor DUI and vehicular offences, finding great satisfaction in advocating for accused individuals in the community.   Mr. Thompson completed his B.B.A. in Mathematics in 1998 and his J.D. in 2001 from Arizona State University.  Mr. Thompson is a member of the National College for DUI Defense and was awarded “Best of Our Valley” in 2013 for criminal defense attorney from Arizona Foothills Magazine.

Mr. Volquardsen focuses his practice in criminal law, with vast expertise in felony and misdemeanor DUI and other vehicular offenses.  Earlier in his law career, Mr. Volquardsen worked in creditor and debtor representation including bankruptcy law but found criminal defense work to be his true passion and has been defending individuals and businesses exclusively in criminal matters for the last ten years.  Mr. Volquardsen obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Arizona State University in Project Management (1997) and was part of the Barrett Honors College during matriculation.  After working in the construction and engineering fields in Los Angeles, California, Jay returned to Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, clerked for the Arizona State Court of Appeals Staff Attorneys Office (Division One) and, ultimately, received his Juris Doctor in 2000 after just two-and-a –half years in law school.  In 2015, Mr. Volquardsen was honored to receive the “10 Best Award Based on Client Satisfaction” from the American Institute of Criminal Law Attorneys as well as the “Nation’s Top One Percent” from the National Association of Distinguished Counsel.
