G&K Announces Native American Affairs Department

GALLAGHER & KENNEDY ANNOUNCES NATIVE AMERICAN AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT

PHOENIX (July 23, 2009) – Phoenix-based Gallagher & Kennedy, P.A., a full service business law firm, today announced the creation of a comprehensive Native American Affairs Department to provide strategic legal advice to Native American tribes, tribal organizations and affiliated entities.

The new department will make Gallagher & Kennedy the first law firm in Arizona to have an all-encompassing department devoted to Native American Affairs. The Native American Affairs Department will include multiple practice areas geared specifically toward the needs of tribal organizations, such as:

  • Tribal Enterprises and Transactions
  • Cultural and Natural Resources Protection
  • Federal Indian Law and Intergovernmental Relations
  • Litigation and Administrative Law
  • Housing and Infrastructure Development
  • Tribal Employment and Labor Law

Paul K. Charlton, a former U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona, will head the Native American Affairs Department. “We look forward to growing our client base and attending to the legal needs of the Native American community,” said Mr. Charlton.

Mr. Charlton’s experience at Gallagher & Kennedy has involved general business law and criminal defense with an emphasis on corporate compliance and Indian law issues. As U.S. Attorney, he successfully prosecuted federal crimes and crimes on Indian reservations in addition to overseeing major enforcement initiatives against terrorism, methamphetamine production and trafficking, public corruption and illegal immigration. Mr. Charlton’s many professional achievements include receiving the Indian Country Intelligence Network Lifetime Achievement Award.
