Matt Boatman Provides Legal Perspective to FOX 10 on Questions Surrounding Arizona DCS Oversight

Gallagher & Kennedy personal injury attorney Matt Boatman was recently interviewed by FOX 10 Phoenix to provide legal insight on questions surrounding Arizona’s child welfare system. This stems from a case involving the investigation into the tragic death of a child in Flagstaff.

In the interview, FOX 10 reporter Taylor Wirtz examined the circumstances surrounding allegations that a 17-month-old child had previously been removed by the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) before jurisdiction was later assumed by the child’s tribe. Court documents referenced in the report raise questions regarding oversight and follow-up measures intended to protect vulnerable children.

Interviewed as an expert on DCS-related issues, Matt emphasized the importance of understanding how decisions were made throughout the process and whether safeguards were in place at each stage.

It appears that the tribe did have custody of the child and that there was no follow-up there or no plan put in place to ensure this child’s safety. At the same time, I have a lot of questions. I want to know what happened at each stage of this proceeding.
